Mixed Use

Mixed use whether it be on the scale of the house, the block or the neighbourhood is an important part of what makes places. Living in the city, working from home, dining under the office – the places we walk through take on a varied and richer character if they are useful for more than one purpose. Developing a supermarket within an envelope of housing and small businesses avoids the monoculture of bland zoning. Mixed use thrives on greater transparency, the more doors on the street, the greater chance of connections

We believe that robust building form can shape great streets, squares and public spaces for people to use and enjoy at different times of the day and in different seasons. Comfortable streets provide shelter from wind and shade. Trees that allow winter sun to brighten and then provide shade with their leaves.
